Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory

DiagnosticMolecularThe Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at UC Irvine Medical Center uses a wide range of techniques including PCR, Southern blot analysis, microarrays and DNA sequencing to perform testing for hereditary disorders, pharmacogenomics, cancer diagnosis and management.

The laboratory provides testing services for UC Irvine Medical Center and for other hospitals and research investigators involved in clinical studies.

Services are available in the following areas:

  • BRAF gene mutation detection for colorectal cancer and melanoma
  • KRAS gene mutation detection for colorectal cancer and non-small cell lung cancer
  • EGFR gene mutation detection for non-small cell lung cancer
  • Factor V Leiden mutation detection
  • Prothrombin 20210A mutation detection
  • MTHFR mutation detection
  • Hereditary hemachromatosis mutation analysis
  • JAK2 mutation detection (for myeloproliferative neoplasms)
  • CYP2C19 gene mutation analysis (Plavix)
  • Microsatellite instability analysis (for colorectal cancer)
  • UGT1A1 promoter polymorphism analysis (Irinotecan)
  • APOE E4 genotype analysis
