i-STAT Cartridge Storage May Result in Erroneously High Ionized Calcium
Background:
Abbott Point of Care has issued an urgent medical device correction for the CG8+ i-STAT cartridges that are used at several UCI sites including the OR, Cath Lab, Radiology, OSS, CDDC, and PACU. Storage of these cartridges at room temperature may lead to erroneously high ionized calcium values. i-STAT CG8+ cartridges should not be stored or kept at room temperature for more than 48 hours. The cartridges should be stored in the refrigerator and removed the same day, prior to use. Any CG8+ i-STAT cartridges that have been stored at room temperature for more than 48 hours should not be used due to the risk of erroneously high results for ionized calcium.

Effective date: Dec. 23, 2020
